Glacier Lake After Bay:
Glacier lake after bay is not really a lake but is fair in size and the fishing is usually really good. This fishing spot is one that I and the kids enjoy going too. It can be a little tricky to get to at times especially when the water is roaring out of Glacier lake up above.

7-Day Weather Forcast:

Coordinates:
Hiking Distance: 2 - 2.5 miles
Difficulty:Steep but not too bad.
Camping:Camping is limited.
Fishing: Fishing is very active.

How to get there: Go south from Red lodge going towards Cooke city. Right before the switch backs going over the Beartooth pass take a right. Greenough lake is right off the main road. Keep going past the camp grounds onto a dirt road. The dirt road will go past M-K camp ground and keep going for what seems forever. At the end of the dirt road you will hit trail #3.

The Trail: Once you start on trail #3 you will find out fast that the trail is fairly steep. The trail is full of switch backs that go up and up and up. The good news is that the switch backs only go up for about 2 miles. With some work you'll be up on top in no time. Once on top you will arrive at Glacier lake. Glacier lake is huge. At the outlet to Glacier lake is a small dam. Look down and you will see the after bay. There are a couple of trails that will lead down to the after bay.

The Lake: The after bay if fairly small in size which I always consider a bonus. It also has a nice waterfalls that comes from Glacier lake up above. Its a pretty little after bay but there are not any spots to camp. You will have to camp up top at Glacier.

The Fishing: I have went to this after bay many times with my kids and have always caught a lot of cutthroats which have always been decent in size. I figure they must get carried down the dam to this after bay.
