How to get there: Go south from Red lodge going towards Cooke
city. Right before the switch backs going over the Beartooth
pass take a right. Greenough lake is right off the main road.
Keep going past the camp grounds onto a dirt road. The dirt road
will go past M-K camp ground and keep going for what seems
forever. At the end of the dirt road you will hit trail #3
The Trail: Once you start on trail #3 you will find out fast
that the trail is fairly steep. The trail is full of switch
backs that go up and up and up. The good news is that the switch
backs only go up for about 2 miles. With some work you'll be up
on top in no time. Once on top you will arrive at Glacier lake.
Glacier lake is huge.
The Lake: Glacier lake is massive at about 175 acres in size.
The trail takes you right up against the lakes outlet where
there is a small dam. The north side of the lake has plenty of
camping and a trail which will take you to
Triangle lake. Glacier lake is known to be very windy at
almost all times of the day. The south side of the lake is very
rocky and would be almost impossible to fish from. The south
side is also in Wyoming so be careful of where you fish.
The Fishing: I have read and heard that Glacier has very
large cutthroats but I have yet to catch a big one. I have seen
many fish jumping at this lake and if one was to spend some time
at this lake could do fairly well.
