Lost Lake:
This is the lost lake up the rock creek drainage on the way to Keyser Brown. I liked Lost lake because it had many good camping spots and the scenery is nice. The fishing however, has not been as nice to me. I have yet to catch a fish at this lake. We did see some nice ones swimming towards the outlet but could not get one to bite. Another time, I did not even see any. This is a great spot to put up a camp and make day trips up to either Black Canyon lake or Keyser Brown.

7-Day Weather Forcast:

Coordinates: 45°04'49 N  109°30'07 W
Hiking Distance: 5 miles
Difficulty:Almost flat the whole way.
Camping: Camping is Plentiful.
Fishing: Can't say much about the fishing.

Caution: Hiking/Camping in the mountains can be dangerous. Please read our caution page.

How to get there: Go south from Red lodge going towards Cooke city. Take the lake fork trail head exit off of the main hwy. The road will go up for about a mile or two before hitting the lake fork trail head.

The Trail: Trail #1 is pretty flat all the way up to almost Keyser Brown lake. The trail also runs along the creek all the way up so stopping for breaks and getting fresh water is always easy. Take the trail for 5 miles. Along the way you will pass Broadwater lake. At about 4.5 miles you will reach a trail head marker. Turn south here and go up for about .5 miles until you reach Lost Lake.

The Lake: The lake itself is a very pretty lake. There are a lot of nice camping spots to choose from. This lake is also nice to camp at because it makes for a good base camp before heading up to Black Canyon lake about 2 miles from Lost lake. The lake itself is very shallow but the scenery around the lake is worth the trip to this lake.

The Fishing: The fishing itself has never been very good for me. I have heard that there are some lunkers in the lake but I have never seen a fish jump at this lake let alone to catch one.
